Our story

During the harvest all the grapes arrive at Castelnau. Each harvest from each vineyard is inspected separately and selected for quality. Several still wines, without mousse, are made from them. 

Winemaker Elisabeth Garcelot blends the wines from different vineyards and vintages into the ultimate cuvée. Just like an artist who puts his first line of paint on the canvas, or a sing & songwriter who conceives his first tones with the aim of creating a new creation, a new blend of Chardonnnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier is born. Every year, a new work of art is created; a silent blend wine that is bottled in the champagne bottle. But the bottle does not yet contain any mousse. The spirit of the bottle is still missing!

For the sparkling magic, Elisabeth adds liqueur d' éxpédition, a liqueur made of sugars and yeast cells. Then the bottle closes and the bottle is allowed to go to the cellar of Castelnau.  

The yeast cells do their work and the sugars are transformed into mousse and alcohol. The Champagne finally comes to life and sparkles with a lust for life!  A star is born!

Castelnau is named after General de Curières de Castelnau a hero of the First World War.
